Cataract Prevention through Ayurveda - Is it Possible?

Cataract also known as Lingnasha or Timira in Ayurveda and it has a lot of interventions to cure cataract. The ailment is one among the most widespread eye diseases, which attacks an individual in his/her old age. When the disease progress in the eye, vision turns blotted out and the patient finds it very difficult to even see nearby objects. Cataract can take place due to irregularities of kapha, rakta, sansargaja, and sannipataja. The shade in the cataract lens depends on the kind of deformity. For example, red shade is owing to unusual vata, yellow because of excess pita, and white is because of irregular kapha.

Reasons of cataract

  • Local causes are injury, temperature variations, inflammation, and alterations in the pressures within the eye and diminished power in the covering of the eye to let fluids to get in and exit from the eye.

  • General causes of cataract are old age, gathering of poisons in the body, polygenic disorder, vitamin shortage, and abnormalities in absorption and the hormone glands.

Cataract prevention through Ayurveda

You can prevent cataract due to old age by following the Ayurveda recommendations as below:

  1. Rasayanas are medicines, which help in the improvement of strength and nimbleness of the mind and physical structure. Rasayanas prepared from Indian gooseberry as well as Indian Gall nut are particularly effective in preventing cataract.

  2. You can also consume around 10-12 gm of Maha Triphala Ghrit, at least once or even two times in a day along with milk.

  3. You can also prepare herbal and mineral preparations by using 500 gm of Saptamrit Lauha. You will have to intake this mix at least two times in a day along with honey.

  4. The Indian kajal, which is made out of herbs, needs to be used from childhood. Sedimentary distils of palas, lotus honey and rose water can also be applied to the eyes, so as to prevent old age cataract. You can also follow some eye exercises, in order to enhance eyesight.
