Eye and Ayurveda - The Undeniable Connection
What is an eye?
According to the Ayurvedic perception, eye is a limb self-possessed of all the 5 mahaabhootas of nature. Among these elements Agni or fire is the most significant elements. Based on the simple logic of science, fire assists in seeing everything clearly, whereas dimness hampers vision. Thus, Ayurveda and eye go hand in hand.
Since our eyes are one of the most significant organs in Ayurveda, all 5 components have a role to play in maintaining eye health. The prithivi (Earth) regularizes the sinewy portion of the eye, tejas (fire) rules the blood vessels, vayu (air) regulates the color, apu (water) prevails in the white region, and akasha (space) checks the tear canals and ducts. Ayurveda says that a problem arises in our eyes only when any one of the 3 doshas is upset. This means that there will be an imbalance in vata, pita or kapha doshas.
Improper Eye care results in impaired vision, where you will need the help of a pair of glasses. Treating cataracts or injured Retinas or even blindness becomes necessary in such cases. The causes of these eye disorders are due to the vata troubles in the eye leading to dryness, damaged vision and eyestrain. Pita asymmetries cause fiery, irritation, yellow emission, and red eyes.
